My mother is in another nursing home and Bob and I went to their family Thanksgiving supper last Tuesday. Our experiences as family members (rather than as staff members) was much different. Many of the things hit upon in this article from Christianity Today were evident and played out at that happy gathering. Thanks for drawing our attention to it. DianeCDP 0 Report Share Posted November 13, 2005 Does your facility invite guests? We do , but must limit it to 2 guests per residents (due to space) and we charge a fee of $10. Pennie 26 Report Share Posted November 14, 2005 Hi, We celebrate Thanksgiving before the actual day. It goes out in the newsletter family members are invited, no limit. However they are to RSVP by a deadline date so that Dietary knows how many are coming. Activities, maintaince & housekeeping get together and set up tables and chairs. Tables have the residents name on them. Space is tight so we use all dining rooms, living room every ava. space in the facility as needed. This is lots of work but it is well worth it. After all the facility is the home of the residents and they never limited their homes to a certain number of family members, this is a quote from the administrator. Thanksgiving Day the residents are served Turkey & dressing family members may sign up for a meal if they wish. I close the activity office on Thanksgiving Day they worked hard helping with the res. dinner prior to this day and also theire are so few res. in the facility on that day anyway. We do leave Bingo and other act. out for them do which usually a few family members will get together and do for them. After all they are wanting something to do too. I feel it is kind of tacky, but this is the way they have always done things and introducing new ideas is a challenge as I'm sure you know!!!!!! But Thanks for the info!!!! Singer 0 Report Share Posted November 15, 2005 Hi, In my facility we don't limit guests we have two seatings for the meal and families RSVP as to what time they want to come and how many will be coming.Department heads help with setup and serving and all staff help with food.We have never charged-change is hard but sometimes it is necessary! Dietary is taking care of Turkey, Ham, Gravy and Stuffing, family members are asked to bring a dish, dessert, drinks or rolls. The dinner is this friday. It's my first and I'm more than a little nervous. A local lady has donated live, fall decorated plants as centerpieces, we're having each family member write their name on a piece of paper, put it in a glass bowl and after dinner we will draw names for the centerpieces. Mandyatscr 0 Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 We will be holding our annual Thanksgiving Family Dinner on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. We invite each of the residents contact list ( Usually 1-3 are listed as contacts). We dont have a limit on how many family can attend and we don not charge for this meal as it is a pot luck kind of meal. Our dietary dept does turkey, stuffing, mashed taters ( and ham usually) and then the families each bring a covered dish and dessert. We normally have 150-200 people show up.
