Hello everyone!

Hello Ashley & everyone!

My name is Jenn, I'm from Ohio and I am currently taking the MEPAP1 class from the Activity Director Network as well. I am excited to start this new adventure in online classes but I am still very nervous with all the technical stuff. How is that part going for you? Do you feel you have the upper hand and how much experience do you have in the field?

Hi, I am a new Activity Director too! When I arrived the calendar was a repeat each month. The residents and staff were BORED! I added a few new activities each month. I also involved the staff and asked for their ideas. I feel it is essential to ask what their gifts are and utilize them. After three months I revised the attendance logs. I feel that if you speak about the changes in a positive manner and have the staff's input it usually goes well. Our focus is on the resident's. When adding new activities ask the residents as well. Actually, they should be the first to be asked. Hope this helps.

Hello from sunny Florida!!

My name is Linda and I am a Program Director at an ALF that specializes in Alzheimer/Dementia. All our residents have some form of memory impairment. This is a very challanging job which I adore. I have to admit that the one thing I do not look forward to is my calendars. I have to do three each month as we have three different communities in the facility. Ten ladies who are just emerging into the desease, twentyeight in the middle, and fourteen in the end. I have been looking for a calendar program that can help with this and ideas...I need ideas. I am looking forward to seeing other ideas and suggestions. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!!

Thanks for your reply. I find this site really helpful and hope to learn as much as I can. When you said you added some new activities, can you give me am example for some of the activities you do?

Thanks
