The end of next month we are having a Health Fair. I have speakers and booths lined up. (WIDE variety of subjects)

What I need is decorations and any other ideas beyond that! We are independent seniors.

I was going to name it "Time for a new YOU" with clocks as decorations Boss wasn't keen on it. So now I have to start over on decorations etc. Help!

 Well... actually, clocks bring to mind the ticking away of time and that sounds like the jig is up which may be a real concern for some seniors. How about decorating with images of brightly colored fruits and vegetables for healthy eating. I take it that calling yourselves "independent seniors" means that you can do some physically lively things. Maybe you could toss in some favorite athletic pics enlarged into posters. They could be just equipment - or even better - pics of people just like yourselves doing sports that you guys could reasonably participate in. I'm thinking golf, tennis, bowling, archery, hiking, tai chi, swimming... get the idea? Is there anything that you guys actually do so that you could take pictures of yourselves in action and have them made into posters? Put some balloons around them.

Wow that is why this site is go great! THANKS! Like the vegies idea very much.

Active at our place well we LOOK like we are a nursing home and the seniors almost act like they are in need of a nursing home yet they have to be able to care for themselves. Average age is over 90. So of the 100 residents I get may 8 for exercise class. Very disappointing over all turn outs for most everything.

THANKS again!

Esteemed colleague,

...I can't help but think about what a 90 year old was doing in their youth, which in many ways impacts their living reality. Think depression - then soup-it-up a bit. No pun intended!

Seriously, these folks were probably trying to find ways to sustain their families though rough times. During tough times, they very well could have been making soup, with whatever ingredients they could find! How about advertising a "stone soup social," and serving up cup sized portions of "stone soup" on a walk-in basis instead of a fixed time. Say, from 2:30-4:00 PM. You will need a large soup kettle and a portable hot plate if you don't have a stove in your common area. Don't attach any extension cords to it either, since that will cause a potential electrical hazard. Just clear it for food allergies in advance. Some folks allergic to sulfa may be sensitive to garlic. FYI. If you want to add a really neat twist, you could, just for historical value charge 1 penny/cup of soup, which is probably what it would have cost in 1930. That would drum up alot of interest and smiles, and make your flyers look neat. Finally you could locate and print off a copy of the original folktale for them to take with them for them to read to their great grandkids, later.
