Ella 0 Report Share Posted March 5, 2009 My answers may also seem a bit different. I have three full time staff in the department but they rotate every two weeks between Activities, Restorative, and then Float (fill in on days off for the other two girls in those departments). Every day I have one Activity Staff, myself and occasionally one of the Bath Aides to help when needed for special parties or larger group activities. How many Bed Facility? 60 Bed How many open beds? Currently One How many hours a week in activities (not including director)? 40 How long does the last activity person stay? 6:00 every day except two nights a month there is an 11:30-8:00 shift Is Activity Director full-time & how many hours worked (not included in above)? full-time and I am salary so I work 40 plus hours a week I am The Department Head so I run the department, including all the paperwork, documentation, MSD, careplans, care conferences etc. as well as run activities with the girls including group outings. The whole ball of wax!

jackiefriel 0 Report Share Posted March 9, 2009 Replying to the staffing question. Are facility has 68 beds and as of right now we have no empty beds. We work 40 hours a week and there is myself and the activity director. We schedule one of us usually staying until 7:30 three nights a week . We take turns doing this. And it works pretty good. Week-ends I work 4hours on Saturday and the activity director 6 on Sundays. We ask at resident counsil if week-end activities is adequate and if there is any problems? They are very happy with the way things are working. And this is all documented.

Dir. works 40-55 hours Act. Asst. works 40-45 hours. Act. Dir. pulls most of the extra hours. We have volunteers who do most of the weekend activities! And, recruiting more for evenings. We have activities available 24 hours per day. The only paid staff is AD & Act Asst. However, recruiting & training volunteers, as well as other staff properly will relieve alot of the department strain. I do some type of recruiting weekly from letters to organizations & churches to appearances, & free sites like Craigs List. So, I keep OT to a minimum since I am salaried. Remember this...100 Volunteers is 100 hours of activities someone else is doing that frees you up to do more while residents are getting a quality program. Train them well & reward them so they stay motivated. 485jeanie
yunakitty 2 Report Share Posted March 10, 2009 How many Bed Facility are you? 52 (20 skilled, 20 AL, 12 memory care) Do you currently have any unfilled/open beds? YES! 12 in memory care (yes, it's empty), 16 in AL (almost empty) and 2 in Skilled. How many hours per week does your activity staff work (total)? 56, including me. I'm an hourly AD, and I get 40 (sometimes + if there is a lot going on.) In theory I have an assistant who works 16 hours a week to cover my two days off (Thu and Fri) but she retired and we are yet to hire a new one! So the resident services director from Independent Living is pinch hitting by covering my AM activities for AL, we have a dog therapy lady on Friday and the exercise teacher from IL comes over and does something with Skilled on Thursday mornings to cover that. Afternoons are bingo on Thu and games of Fri, supposedly done by the nursing staff... How long does the last activity staff stay? That would be me, and it varies...when I take AL out for dinner I've been working until 8:30 pm, but most days I leave at 5:30 or so. There are evening activities every night at 7:00 that are supposed to be done by the PCA's...but you know how that goes What are your hours scheduled for weekends? 9:30-5:30 (me) both days Is your Activity Director full-time or how many hours worked (not included in above)? Yes, I'm full time, 40 hours.

yunakitty 2 Report Share Posted March 14, 2009 Wow, Philco, you poor thing! You should definitely have an assistant, at least someone to be there when you are not, and I'd even think with 80 people that you'd have two people working at the same time sometimes. How do you meet everyone's needs? What happens on the weekends?

RLC 0 Report Share Posted March 16, 2009 (edited) How many Bed Facility are you? 65 Do you currently have any unfilled/open beds? yes about 21 open beds How many hours per week does your activity staff work (total)? they work 40 hours a piece How long does the last activity staff stay? they stay 8 hours 8 or 8:30 to 4:30 or 5pm What are your hours scheduled for weekends? Saturday and Sunday 8 hours Is your Activity Director full-time or how many hours worked (not included in above)? I am the Activity Director and I work 40+ hours a week and also I am staff development and I also do all of the scheduling for the nursing staff and plus do the whole things for activities. Which include careplans, MDS's, progress notes, admissions, etc. And I am not salary so therefore I do not mind working overtime. I have two assistants, but only budgeted for 1 1/2. I make them work on various things and then I can show corporate what they have been doing. Hopefully one day all of this other stuff will be taken from me!!! I'll continue to pray!!! Jodiojodi 0 Report Share Posted March 23, 2009 We have 65 beds. Currently about 8 are empty. I am the director and I work 40 hours a week. I have two assistants. One works only every other weekend, and the other works 5 days a week, including every other weekend. My assistants work from 8:30 - 4:30 with the exception of Thursday when the hours are 12:30 - 8:30. So during the week I have one day that I work without an assistant, and I cover the morning activities on Thursday, I don't work the weekends unless I need to cover for one of them.
