Mel 0 Report Share Posted December 3, 2008 One of our sister facilities recently had the residents cook a meal and then take it to the homeless shelter and serve the homeless. It went over great and those that helped loved it and they plan to conitnue to do it quarterly. I'm not as big as them nor do I have the young population like they do so I'm trying to come up with something my residents could do to "give back to the community." Any ideas would be appriciated! Thanks!
mariah 0 Report Share Posted January 13, 2009 Maybe your residents could decorate cookies (already baked) to go along with your sister facility whom is cooking meals. This goes with one another and both facilities are giving to the community! Jeanine 0 Report Share Posted January 13, 2009 Our residents also like to feel they are a part of the community and like to give back. We try to do something at least quarterly. Last Easter, we put together 46 easter baskets to be brought to a long term pediatric wing. We ran it like an assembly line, each resident putting in candy, toys and little trinkets depending on if the basket was for a girl or a boy. The children were very appreciative and our residents had a blast. We will be doing it again this Easter. We also made book marks out of the foam paper, decorated them with foam stick ons and put a ribbon at the top. We donated them to the local library. We got a nice thank you letter from the children's section and the residents were so pleased.
