How many of you drive the bus for events and outings and are you responsible for scheduling for the Dr. Appts, Grocery runs and other transportation items? Thanks for your time! Ella 0 Report Share Posted November 17, 2008 Hi Gypsy! I am the Recreation Therapist at my facility. I do have my chauffeur's license which is what I think you mean, not CDL. I do drive our facility bus (12-14 passanger depending on # of wheelchairs) for events and outings. I have one other staff member in the department that can also drive. There are also a couple other staff members in the facility that drive for our outings when needed and for the Dr. appointments. The Dr. appointments are set up through Social Services and her staff take care of those transportation needs with our bus if family are not able to or if the resident is not able to transfer into a private vehicle. BartMan 0 Report Share Posted November 18, 2008 Yes , I am required to have a CDL class C license in the State of Florida to drive the Residents in the bus , to go on outings and such. I do not do dr. runs someone else does, for a while the ambulance service was doing the dr. runs. I am only responsible for my outings, I have an assistant that drives as well. rworley 0 Report Share Posted December 8, 2008 We transfer residents to their eye and doctor appointments. We transport residents that wish to go to their childhood homesites, within reason. The appointments plus bus rides and mall shopping trips keep us pretty busy. We have two units with a young population dementia unit that are very active. At the facility I work at the social worker does all the scheduling or the RN supervisor. We get transportation to take them: ambulance, etc. The only thing I use the van for is outings and I use my regular license. We can carry 7 - 10. But that is something for me to look into. spartans 0 Report Share Posted April 28, 2009 If we use another van within the corporate, we are required to have a cdl. we have hired a part time person for this position. He assists with floors as well. Appointments are made by family and social services. They are responsible for the transportation. I do shopping for a resident.
