What are you planning for St. Patrick's Day & Easter

I would really like to do something extra special for St. Patrick's Day this year! But with Easter & St. Patty's in the same month, I'm going to need to be thrifty.

Our V-Day party was nice, but it was very low-key, and we just had music, food & prizes, and a door prize drawing for a V-Day basket (we made $132 in 24 hours! YAY!)... but I'm looking to do something a little more extravagant we can invite the families to for St. Patrick's Day!

Also, what are you planning for Easter? I'm thinking of an Easter Parade where we invite children in their Easter Outfits to parade around the facility along with their parents... I don't know?? Just brain storming.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

For St. Patrick's Day I am planning a What's Cooking for the day before. We are going to make Corned Beef and Cabbage Stew and then on St. Patrick's Day we will gather in the dining room and have a nice sit down dinner to eat it. We are inviting family members to come in to join us.

For Easter we will have an Easter Egg Hunt. We post flyers in the community and invite the younger children to come into the facility to Hunt. The residents help the Activity staff fill plastic eggs with candy and paper slips with prizes written on them, they also help us hide the eggs (those who are able). On the day of the Hunt we bring all the residents to the main dining room and lobby to watch the little ones hunt for their eggs. We provide cookies and punch for all. Peter Cottontail comes in to visit with the youngsters and the residents. The residents get a big kick out of all of it!

We are planning an "Over the Rainbow Party" for St. Patrick's Day. We will being playing games with various color themes and serving snacks with a rainbow theme. We will also be having a treasure hunt where everyone will be working together to find the hidden pot of gold. For Easter, we are hosting our Annual Easter Hat Parade. Each participant decorates a hat of their choice with a variety of items and then wear them as we "parade" around the facility. We are 173 bed facility and have about 80 people who usually particiapte in this. It is amazing how many of the guys get involved with their hats which are usually decorated with fishing lures, tools, etc. Staff are also invited to participate and this is a great way to utilize family and friends to assist with pushing resident wheelchairs. We do not spend much money on this...most residents already have a hat of some sort and families and staff always are more than willing to donate the decorations. We follow the parade with a church service, easter egg hunt and refreshments.

We do a food activity for every holiday, I let the residents choose the menu and we get with rehab and we prep everything and do a big event either in the courtyard if it is warm, or in the activity room. We are also targeting UTI's and weight loss residents with these types of things. I also have craft classes for the holidays that incorporate the holiday and something that the residents can give to thier loved ones.

Hello,

Activity Dir for 5 years in PA. Three years ago I started an Irish Pub for the residents and staff. We serve Green beer and decorate the activities room as a bar. We play Irish drinking music and drinking games with NA beer, We do serve Regular beer also just not with the games. We cook wings, fries, soft pret, nachos and popcorn. I have raised enough money just with this one program to buy a 50 in plasma tv and a new Wii system this year.. Big Money maker.. Staff, Residents and families love it and look forward to it every year. They want it with different holiday's but I save it. The easter egg hunt always is a safe bet but a little redundent everyone does that every year. Try to set up a scavenger hunt through-out the facility with different stuff. You can still invite the little one's just make them up as teams. At the end you can give them hotdogs and chips for lunch. You can talk to Mcdonalds they allow for so many free kids meals each year so you can probably get enough to cover each kid. We have also dyed easter eggs for the whole facility to help dietary. we put them inany further help portion cups and had them placed on each residents tray. We had 5 wining eggs for staff if they found it while passing trays they won a free lunch on the activities dep. Good for escort help if you give them something.. Well thats my ideas hope they helped..... Craig.

Hi Craig,

I am wondering what you charge for items at your Irish Pub and what the rest of the details are on how you set up this fundraiser. This is a wonderful idea! Any extra information you have would be great.

Thanks!
