I wanting to take some of our Residents to a over night camp out. In a building not in tents in the spring or the fall. I can't find any one who has done this in my area. I thing it will be a lot of work but a lot of fun. Activitys like fishing ,hot dog roast , ghost storys, a sing a long and much much more. What do you think.

You will want to be sure and check with payment coverage. I know in some states at least if a resident is gone over night (after midnight) they have to fill out paperwork for a LOA and bed hold etc.

That sounds awesome!

But I have to admit that you are brave, I would never attempt a camping trip! I would be afraid of the chaos. If you were able to get all the family members to take their resident then maybe.

My suggestion is start small - just go for the day and see what the turn out is and then talk to everyone about staying over night! The problem I foresee is the resident don't really like their schedule to get messed up so they might not be up to the challenge!

Let us know what you decide!

Going camping with the residents is a GREAT idea! We took residents several times. We would take 10 residents at a time. We found a retreat center that had a lodge and all the residents look forward to it. We would leave at 2:00PM and return the next day at 3:00PM.

We had 3 CNA's, 1 LPN and 2 Activities Staff. Some of the residents stayed up all night and others were in bed by midnight. They enjoyed sitting around the camp fire and the camp cooking. Becasue it is an activity the Medicaid rate was not effected.

I highly recommend it as it was a great way to meet the insterests of some of our guys. It was worth all the planning and conversations that we had prior. The next time we went it was much easier! Staff was paid their regular shift as they volunteered to go and the second time around we had more volunteer staff!

If a facility can take residents on a cruise for a week, an overnight camp trip is a piece of cake!

That is so cool Kate!!!

I have never felt confident in outings they make me nervous. It is so nice to know that people are doing such interesting and exciting activities with our seniors
