Diana 0 Report Share Posted September 15, 2006 I know what you are going through. All I could come up with was volunteers or family members to assist. Or, have one department a day work the cookies - all to benefit resident council. yes, you may have to prove to your boss through action (manning the cookies 5 days a week) that it is unrealistic, but that is part of our jobs. Good luck! Diana
mguise 0 Author Report Share Posted September 16, 2006 Diana Thanks for your advice. I already told my boss 5 days a week would be impossible but I have to do it. I will do the best I can. Thanks again Mary
Guest Debra Ray Report Share Posted September 16, 2006 I understand your problem. I have a full time assistant and we sell cookies 2x weekly- Wednesday morning & Friday morning. With all the new documentation State will be looking at I'd rather have a little less money than an Activity Tag but since you are already committed this is what our facility does. Otis Spunkmeyer provides the cookie baker (I'm sure that's what you are probably using). We also have a microwave that has a timer. My assistant puts the cookies in, sets the timer and is able to do documentation for 18 minutes while the cookies are baking. We have a resident who takes the cookies throughout the facility to the employees in a basket (with an envelope for the money). It's something to keep her busy and only takes our time to get cookies out of freezer, put on trys to cook and bag. Let the residents who are capable participate and this will free a lot of your time and not be a dreaded chore but a fun time. The smell throughout the building is also very enticing. Good luck! mguise 0 Author Report Share Posted September 17, 2006 Dear Debra Thanks that is a good idea about the residents helping out. I was going to have some of the ladoes help cook them already but I was not thinking they would help with the sale. I too am from N.C. Thanks again Mary
Vanessa 0 Report Share Posted September 17, 2006 We also bake and sell Otis Spunkmeyer cookies. We now only do it on paydays - to do it more often takes away that it is a special treat. When we were selling cookies weekly, our sales took a dive after about a month or 6 six weeks. So we cut back. We don't sell cookies at all in December and during the summer months. We have found a homeschool group of kids to do the baking and selling. Their parents have worked this into their math cirriculum. It has worked out very well for us. Good luck! >Vanessa
