Hi I work in an assisted living facility and I take them to a local Pool place to play pool for about an hour. I have also purchased a mini golf set so they can practice there putting. I also purchased a bowling game from a catalog called Nasco Senior Activities. It has everything that you may possibly need for activities it is a great catalog.

The men in my facility enjoy playing poker, blackjack, 21, skip bo, uno and dominos. They also enjoy the horse shoe game and ring toss. These activity games seem to keep our residents happy. :)

I am an A.D in a new assisted living,i need ideas for mens programming can anybody help?

We just started up the Men's Groups again. The men gave ideas of what they wanted to do during the monthly meetings. One was to have an outside speaker give a travel log. Another was a program about War Dogs.

it is a great time to go fishing. or even i had a mens group come in and bring trophies , pictures of big catch, served refreshments give out fishing caps and you know the women still came to the event. they shared stories and everyone enjoyed it.

The men in my day center enjoy any woodworking craft such as sanding crafts so that they can be painted and eventually donated. We've also put together model airplanes which they enjoyed as well. Basically, any activity that is meaningful such as charity or something that requires them to think.

You can check in your community to see if there is anyone that has small antique and they can come in and show them to the men. You could also see if there is volunteer that wants to come in and play cards with them once a week.

We have hoagie night for the men. They get to make their own hoagie and then they sit around and reminisce while they eat them.

My facility has only 10 men with varied levels of cognition and physical ability. However, we have noticed they all enjoy a cold beverage along with pizza. I am planning on showing a "classic football game" on the big screen TV with pizza and beer once a month for a mens group.

I would try a to tak the men on fishing trip (local area of course) and you could also serve Sharps, a non-alcoholic beer w/ chips, etc.. on the trip. My facility also has a Men's Club that meets once a month for cards and refreshments. It is a good bonding time for them. During the Mens Club I do recommend that you stay with the group to facilitate conversations and socialization process...or you could have a "Guy" movie night with pizza and non-alcoholic beer.

My directors and I are currently going through the same issue. We are trying to diversify our programs with more manly themed activities. We are planning on taking one small area of our building and creating a "sports den." The plan is to put in at least one shelving unit and place certain items on it for our guys like a nerf football and other such items. There is also an item that we plan on purchasing that is a pipe puzzle. It's pieces of pvc piping attached to a board base with other pieces of pipe that they can attach. I also had an idea for sorting that I plan on implementing. I intend to purchase certain hardware like screws, bolts, different sized washers, and such for our men to sort, much like the beads we have for our women for sorting.

Our male residents love watching the old westerns and war movies. So we have our men's club once a month and they watch the movie they have voted on. They also get to pick what type of refreshments, which is usally nachos and virgin beer. They love it. At the end of the movie the vote again on which movie and what refreshments they want for the next month. We have also been in touch with a car vintage car club, and we are trying to get this planned for the men. The car club is willing to bring their cars out to the facility for show. Still working out the details.

The men at my facility are few and very diverse as well, but they do enjoy anything related to food. Something new I've started however isinviting the men's group participants from other nearby facilities to join us for our men's group. I find that more of the men at my facility will participate if the group is larger. They tend to be turned off by the lack of interest of their peers so by involving men from other facilities at least that increases the number of participants leading to more interest from men who normally wouldn't partcipate. Hope this helps everyone.

Thanks,

Joe

We began to give the men coffee and doughnuts at a certain time each week. The are also beginning their Men's workshop. The plan is to offer projects for them to work on. They are currently using a primer to paint ceiling tiles which will be finished by fine artists for over the bed scenes. We are going to do some basic staining and sanding projects. We had a local naturalist come in who provided the "target fishing" with real poles with weights attached for casting. That was fun. We gave away money for the best casts and that helped. The football parties are a hit and we hope to try the mentioned poker, beer , and pretzel night that sounds like it will work for some guys.

Yes men are definately hard to keep entertained. We have a lot of ex-farmers here in our state of Minnesota so we have trivia about pigs, horses, cows, planting of beans, corn etc. The men definately also like to watch old westerns and listen to country music. Oh, they also like to get there back stratched so we have a "Men's spa time".

Since we have a few amount of men in our facility, i like to have small group outings to farms, tractor shows or sport games. The Men in the facility like to go outside. they often feel over powered by the amount of women in the facility who mostly enjoy Bingo and Arts and Crafts. Taking them into a new environment helps a lot. Card game night are a good choice as well. Also, try adding a beer and football night; they sell non alcoholioc beer in the stores for those not permitted to have alcohol.

hope that helps.

Hi. I know this post will be years later, but I am currently taking the MEPAP1 to become a Certified Activities Director (CAD) and I need to post on here for part of the final. This activity can be used for men only, but I use it for both men and women on the Alzheimer's Unit. We play a gamed called "Roll the Dice". Every participant gets a paper with the numbers 2-12 on them and a pen or marker. I use a pair of red oversized plastic dice. Every player rolls the dice and crosses off the number they roll. The first player to cross of the #'s 2-12 first wins a prize. The residents enjoy counting the number rolled as it is simple math and a skill they have used their whole lives. I make it into a "gambling" game, which the residents enjoy!

Men like to garden. Also if you have alert men and enough of them maybe a small repair shop where they can fix things for other residents. You could also have broken bikes, trickes etc donated to facility men can fix these up and at Xmas donate them to a place that will give them kids that maynot otherwise get gifts.
