2 Program Facility

Recommended Posts

Guest Guest_Rebecca

I work in a 76 bed facilty with a 12 bed Alzheimer Unit. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on guidlelines for how much time should be dedicated directly to the Alzheimer unit and Main area. Currently we bring them off of the unit in the moring and have them join in with the general activities in the am. After lunch we try to get back to the unit at least 2 times but it causes difficutly because we miss out of the prime time for the main groups. We have myself and one other staff member in the department. So at least 3 days a week we work by ourselves. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I don't want our department to just be used for smoke breaks, we need to make it work for the entire facility.

Thanks for your help. :-o

Hello Rebecca,

Is this a AL or NF?

If AL, I had this same set up at my first job. What we did was completely seperate jobs -One AD on the AL and one in the memory unit. You see Alzheimer's activities need to be going on all day in 30 minutes increments. So I did all the Al activities and my Assistant did all the Alzheimers activities. That way we knew our own jobs and we were in compliance. If state walked in there would be activites going on each side.

Hope this helps

Karen

I agree with Karen. But on the days that there is only one of you, your CNA's on the unit should run those activities. A SCU should work with everyone. There aren't specific jobs that only one person does. When I ran an SCU, everyone was in-serviced on how to do activities. I had an activity binder that explained every group that was run. I had supplies on the unit so that the CNA's didn't use that as an excuse. Do you have a SCU coordinator? If so, she should be involved. A SCU has to run as a team, not separate departments, and with a 12 bed unit, there is plenty of time for the other department to pitch in. Talk with your administrator and your DON, you need them to back you up with that.
