A Bingo Oops!

We all have our Bingo stories. This may be a first! Today was a Valentine's Bingo. I wore the appropriate headgear...a headband with antennae hearts. Prizes were heart shaped box of chocolates, sweet teddy bears with hearts, heart note pad and pen, heart coffee mug etc. For a change I found a heart scratch ticket, that went with the theme. Two people turned it down. THAT is gambling!!!.....Yikes, I know these folks well...conservative farming type, yet there are a couple out of the 24 who come, who wouldn't have minded. I picked the wrong person. I guess I learned to meet them where they are. FYI she won $10, on a $2 ticket, but gave it to her neighbour. I won't do that again.

What is funny is bingo is a form of gambling - game with a prize, just like poker and roulette!

With these folks, as long as they don't pay to play, it's just good clean fun. But there are some who don't come who definately beleive it is gambling, no matter what. I feel for you guys who have Bingo 3 or 4 times a week. Do you have volunteer groups who come in to help. I don't...and get so tired of being perky sometimes.

Has anyone tried the Jingo "Bingo" games? Residents usually have a good response to them. The games come in different catergories such as Food, Springtime, Birthday, etc. The games are pictures only (yes it is geared to all age groups) and each of the callers cards have clues so the person (s) can guess the items you are talking about. It is actually a bit harder than regular Bingo since you have to search for the picture and also answer a bit of trivia to achieve the correct answer. I did have a "Bingo Oops" with the Bible Jingo. This is the first time in 8 years that I have had a resident say that they did not feel it was right to "gamble" with the Bible because it was sacred.

Hi all,

I have also heard from those who wouldn't play for money because it is gambling. But if they win play money to buy something from the bingo cart or just a prize outright then it is all right. I don't get it one way or the other they are still getting something (gambling). But for the most part all of them come if no real money is involved! However once a month the ambulance service does bingo and they pay with quartes. This is the biggest bingo game all month, those who yell about gambling are there playing. residents are so funny :)

I have played the Jingo games, music bingo, all color bingo, math bingo, food bingo, etc. The residents will play it as long as it is not played in replacement of good old fashioned bingo hall style bingo. When we play Jingo, we get a smaller crowd because it is much harder for them to follow.

Just a new twist on Bingo I'd like to share.......as we know bingo is a favorite for the residents and it is nice to play it a different way to give us a break!

We play pass-it-on bingo 1-2 times a week. We use paper cards and ink blotters, (make copies of your laminated ones if you don't have the paper cards), and pass the card to the left after every five numbers that are called! It is exciting and interesting as you might lose your card just as you are waiting for one number.

It is important to have everyone at the same table for this game, or else you'll be running all over the room helping people pass their cards.

Hope this helps with the bingo boredom!

 Hi Everyone,

I work in a 60 bed facility, but the difficult part is that we are in three SEPARATE buildings. Therefore, when I play Bingo I might play two times a day!! But it is by far the favorite activity. I play with around 10 people at a time around one table. I give quarters for each game won. To get some conversation going between games, I check out what state the quarter represents and we talk about taking a trip there - bag and baggage. The eagle on the quarter is a wild card and we can go anywhere we want. It is great fun for them, gets conversation going about dreamed about trips, trips actually taken, and the imaginary kind we create on the spot. Have a great day!!
