mawbell 0 Report Share Posted January 26, 2006 Hi, we are in transit for awhile now with the high level of care for our residents. Many are not able to participate in large group programs due to their health. We are finding we are programming for smaller groups and 1-1 interaction. Many of our program times has been changed in the afternoon and evening due to afternoon naps and needing to go to bed earlier with the increased heavy care needs. We are going more to their units to do programs as there is so much portering to bring them to a central location and we don't receive alot of help portering from other disciplines.:-( Seems like the new residents who are being admitted are all heavy care with mutiple health issues. Alot of dementia and mental illness. Our entertainment still has a good attendance and we do do that in cenral locations. How are programs going in your facilties? Love to here from you :-) Linda
Guest Guest_anna Report Share Posted January 26, 2006 i work in a 17 bed snf located in a hospital so almost all of my patients have extreme health, mental, or social issues. i have found that doing alot of one on one with them helps them to forget even if it is for a short time that they are still in the hospital and i have developed great relationships with many of my patients even though their average stay is only 5-7days. we also do many small group activities of 2-3 such as exercises, bible reading, ladies and mens groups. it allows them to open up with out being overwhelemed. this is really best for the patients have alot of confusion or are easily distracted. good luck!
