  1. Doug, It is best if you mail a brochure, flyer, and a disc with clips of your show to the AD. This will let them know what you do, how well you do it and if it is somehing that their residents will enjoy. Also include total charges. If you can, include copies of newspaper articles about the event and references from other ADs as well. Many ADs, myself included, have hired entertainers and then been sadly disappointed with the results. Just make sure that doesn't happen to you by doing what you need to do to promote yourself and provide quality entertainment. All ADs are on a budget so make sure that you don't price yourself out of the market either. You don't need to spam anyone if you provide a good show for a good price. They will begin to call you sandylou
  2. We are hiring a new Activity Director. Our boss is interviewing several ladies that do not have a high school diploma or GED. Is this legal? We live in a very rural area. Three of the four that have applied for the job do not have a diploma. I feel that it is demeaning and undermining the NAAP and the NCAAP to do this. It means that you don't have t o have any special skill, etc --that anybody can do the job. Where can I find the qualification requirements to show him? I may be wrong, but I hope not. (I'm in TN) Thanks Sandy
  3. Hi, Yes, I've had several proms. First, consider your budget. Can you hire a band, a DJ, or will a local group perform for free. What about your decorations? Does your facility have any rules about what you can and cannot put up, even if it is for one night? Are you going to have other staff to assist you? The local deli will be more than happy to assist you with plannning your food. You could have a caterer. Does your facility hava chef that would provide food? How many people are you palnning for? Is the staff invited? Are their spouses invited? Is there a local college or high school that would provide "dates" for your group? Can you get a local dance group to come and perform? Can you get a local dance instructor to volunteer that is used to working with older folks? All of the questions need to be considered before you even take the next step. I know that this sounds like a lot but it's part of being a person who says, "Hey, Let do this!" and no one listens versus one who knows what they are talking about and knows how to carry it out. Now that I've overloaded you with this, it will go over very well, the residents and staff will love it. Take lots of pictures, write a blurb in the newspaper about it and put it in your newsletter. You'll do great! Good Luck, Sandy
