  1. We give each resident a 11x17 version of the monthly calendar that we print here, but we also have two large bulletin boards that we use to post weekly calendars. I type them up in Microsoft Word, and copy them on our copier, enlarging them to ledger size (11x17). We also post the lunch and dinner menus with the weekly activity schedule. I can send you a picture and a copy of my weekly calendar template if you are interested.
  2. Hi! I've been in activities for two years, both as the activity director. I'm trying to update our policy and procedure book, and I have noticed that we do not have a single activity-department specific policy/procedure for anything. All the policies we have are general, such as hand washing, attendance, etc. Does anyone know where I can get some general activity department policies for free or very cheap, so I can get an idea of what needs to be in the manual? I am at a loss as to where to start. Thanks!
  3. At my facility, we have different organizations that host our monthly birthday parties. They bring refreshements, and either provide entertainment or play Bingo with the residents. They usually bring very nice Bingo prizes that are out of my budget, which is a nice change for the residents. The previous director set up the hosts, so I just remind them each year. Most of the organizations are churches, but the American Legion Women's Auxilary hosts, as does the Semper Fidelis Club.
  4. We have a large aviary from Living Designs in our lounge. It is great for small group & 1:1 visits, and for residents with dementia. Families love it, and many bring their loved one to the lounge when they visit. Activity staff clean it weekly (and prn), and it takes about 45 minutes. Daily, we check the water and food, and give them a hard boiled egg. It was a little expensive to set up, but it is worth it in the long run. The company comes to check the birds and do a thorough cleaning every three months.
  5. I'd like to see a copy too. It may be similiar to what we are currently doing, but we print the Excel form at the beginning of the month and chart manually. Please send a copy to lvveva@stjoelive.com. Thanks!
