Why Multiple Certification Paths Make Our Profession Stronger

Why Multiple Certification Paths Make Our Profession Stronger

Certification is a choice — and choice keeps our profession healthy. We recommend the Activity Professional National Certification Council (APNCC) as the best balance of rigor, accessibility, and real-world support.

Certification Is a Choice — Not a Monopoly
There are several nationally recognized certification bodies for Activity Professionals. That diversity is good for the field: it encourages innovation, prevents monopolies, and lets you choose the path that best fits your background and goals.

“Options make us better. When professionals can choose their pathway, credentials reflect true competence — not gatekeeping.”

Why Do You Recommend APNCC?

APNCC balances rigor with accessibility, aligns with modern, person-centered care, and offers clear pathways for both degree holders and experienced professionals — especially via Path Two (AP-BC).

I’m brand new to the field. Can I still work toward APNCC Certification?

Yes! APNCC offers pathways designed for those just starting out. You can begin with the required education component, gain supervised experience, and build your credentials as you grow in the profession. Many professionals start their certification journey in their first year.
