Hi! I was wondering what, if any, employee recognition programs are in place at your facility? Is there a daily thank you or we appreciate you kinda thing? Weekly? Monthly? Or just on special dates? Are you responsible for the program?

Sept 11-17 is National Housekeeping Week in addition to National Assisted Living Week. We have awesome housekeepers! I want to do something special for them. Our facility is the cleanest facility I have ever been in. I don't know how those women do it!

Our facility has a week named Employee Appreciation Week once a year.
We usually hold a bar-b-q for them and have soda and ice cream. The employees also get to wear jeans on one day or have a dress-down day.
They also each get a special gift to know they are appreciated. One year they got a lunchbag with our logo printed on it. Inside was a "dollar" to the vending machine, a bag of potato chips, etc. This year they got a bag with our logo on it and a fleece blanket. It's the little things that matter.

Does anyone have ideas to help movtivate your staff when budget cuts are forcing them to cut back on their hours?

Hi, I took the course at activitydirector.org "Tricks to Motivate Your Staff". The price is right and got lots of info from it. Even though I am not an AD I figured I could always use the info as an AA. Hope this helps you. Pat8231 8-)

hi all, at our facility twice a year we have huge parties (mid-year and christmas) where staff, volunteers or patients are encouraged to perform some entertainment. We are at the stage of needing some new ideas - they can be ideas for songs or any skits requiring acting. Here are some Some of our more successful things we have done over the last few years: dressing up as dolly parton and dancing to '9to5', dressing up tropically in leius to dance to 'I go to rio' by peter allen, dressing up as the blues brothers and dancing to 'shake a tail feather', having a mock wedding, complete with mock ceremony and reception, dressing in raincoats and umbrellas to 'singing in the rain', dressing as nuns and acting out scene from sisteract "i love him???"...etc..... idoes anybody have any other suggestions for iconis songs we could do this year, all the above ideas worked really well and the residents love to see what we will do next

One of our consultants from www.activitydirector.com shared this idea and I think it would be a great Staff Motivation idea!

Have a Motivation Month- Gather 31 small prizes and each day pull a staffs name from a hat and let the staff member who's name is drawn pick from your box of prizes!

Ok here is my two cents. I started to have once a month thing for the staff. Last month I made virgin strawberry daquires at the end of shift/beginning of shift. Last month I had bingo for the staff. Three prizes, first game regular bingo then an X and then full card. FOr the full card I gave gift cert $10, the other bingo was large candy bars, bags of candy, water bottles, snacks. I announce the numbers to staff five at a time. I bought the cards at Wal-mart for 3.99. I hand out pens and high lighters. I have had alot of positive feed back form the staff. We also have employee of the month. We give gift cert. and a parkings place and their picture is posted in the lobby on a plac. Hope this helps Tracy

Hey Guys,

I am at a conference in New Mexico and one of the Social Services ladies for a local facility shared this staff motivation idea with me and I really like it!

Fist Full of Money
This activity is for only staff that have been employed for a year or more.

First get a nice present bag and wad up dollar bills, five, ten and twenty dollar bills, depending on what you can afford to spend on this activity. Make sure this is done at a big staff event where all staff can watch. Let each qualified staff member stick their hand in QUICKLY and grab a fist full of Money. The big thing here is they only get one quick grab and that is it! So staff will win alot more - it is all luck! I really like this idea!!!

Hello,
I think my building has come across a great way to bring the staff and residents together. We call it our Monthly Leadership Challenge. Each month the Activity Department {who else!} comes up with a specific challenge for our Leadership Team {Department Heads} to do with the residents. We have done such crazy things as “What’s My Line” where the DH’s had to guess what job title was picked by asking the panel questions. This was a hoot! At Easter, each department had to make a float to be in our Easter Parade. Our Maintenance Department won that one since they came in on a flat cart with Beach Boys music blaring and handing out orange “floats” to the residents. {Hey, no one said bribery was excluded!} One of my favorite was our “12 Days of Christmas.” Each DH picked their ‘day’ out of a hat and had to act it out as the residents sang {or tried to sing in between all the laughter!} the “12 Days” song at our Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony! The poor DH’s who picked low numbers! This was hysterical! Since the Activity Department is always creating the challenge, we never get to participate so starting this month one DH will have their name drawn out of a hat and they will have to come up with the next months challenge. Our residents really look forward to these events. Everyone is invited, including family. It gives our residents a chance to see another side of us other than the ‘business’ side. Some other ideas we had were Iron Chef, tennis match {glad I didn’t have to participate in that one!}, Family Feud, Scarecrow decorating to resemble your department, etc… The ideas are endless! Your residents will love it. Have fun.
